Early Pregnancy Scan

At Baby Scanning we know that the early stages of pregnancy are a very anxious times for mum’s to be.  Typical concerns at this time in pregnancy are…Is my pregnancy is developing normally?  Will it result in a miscarriage? or is it an ectopic pregnancy?  Our early pregnancy scan (also known as a viability or dating scan) can provide you with the reassurance that your pregnancy is developing normally in the early stages.

Early Pregnancy Scans are not routinely offered on the NHS, at Baby Scanning you do not need an NHS referral to attend our clinic.  For many going private is the only option to get that peace of mind and reassurance that all is well with your pregnancy.  This is why Baby Scanning strive to provide a service that is both professional and affordable.

At this stage in pregnancy the foetus is very small, the sonographer will be checking not only the foetus but also its position.  All of our sonographers are friendly and helpful with a vast amount of knowledge and experience in their field, if you have any questions they will be happy to put your mind at ease.

Purpose of the scan

Confirm there is an ongoing viable pregnancy

Check there is a foetal heartbeat

Rule out ectopic pregnancy and check the sac Is located in the uterus

Determine if it is a single or multiple pregnancy

What happens during an ultrasound scan?

Our Early Pregnancy Scan is available from 8 weeks of pregnancy.  It will be performed on your lower abdominal area.  It is best for you to attend with a full bladder for this scan.  During your appointment the sonographer will ask that you lay on the bed and lift your top up, ultrasound gel will be placed on your abdomen, the sonographer will then make all relevant checks and provide a verbal early pregnancy report.  They will also take some images of your baby which will be available to take home on the day.  If the sonographer is unable to get good visibility of the foetus, it may be that you are too early in your pregnancy for the foetus to be seen, in this case you will be asked to return in 1 week or so to have the scan repeated.

To book your scan please use our online booking system or call our friendly booking line team who will be happy to help.  Lines are opened from 9am – 9pm.
